Where can I find the lists of ingredients and nutrition facts for the bases mixes and the individual ingredients?
We offer a detailed list of ingredients and nutrition facts for each base mix and ingredient. You will find a link underneath our ingredient pictures, and all you have to do in order to get more information on the respective base or ingredient is click this link. In case you should have any further questions please feel free to contact us.
Do the pictures on your website resemble your products?
We believe in transparency and aims to provide you with the most accurate information we can. That’s why we opted to take our own pictures of each ingredient offered on our website instead of using stylized pictures. This is also in your interest because it ensures that your custom gluten-free cereal looks just as delicious as the pictures you see when creating your mix.
How much cereal do I get in each bag?
All mixes from Custom Choice Cereal total 12 ounces or 340.2 grams. For each serving of dried fruit or nuts you add, the same amount of base mix is deducted from your mix. No matter what, you always end up with 12 ounces of gluten-free deliciousness.
How many bowls are in each bag of cereal?
We have to admit that there is a difference between official serving size and a decent bowl full of cereal. To complicate things even further, most of you have different sized breakfast bowls. In our experience each bag of gluten-free let you enjoy between 5 and 7 bowls of your gluten-free cereal.
What is the shelf-life of my cereal?
If you store it in a cool and dry place, your custom gluten-free cereal stays fresh for 3 months after the “cerealization” date that you can find on the back of each bag. However, Custom Choice Cereal’s mixes are so tasty that we doubt you will be able to stay away from them for that long!
Can I suggest new ingredients or send you feedback?
Absolutely! We even encourage you to let us know what you think because it’s the best way for us to learn and improve! Please contact us to suggest a new ingredient. We also welcome your feedback on our blog, on facebook, or by simply giving us a call at 919.484.9757.
Why does each gluten-free cereal mix also have a different price?
When we say that you are in control we mean it all the way. When you create your personal gluten-free cereal with only the ingredients you love, your price will vary with your selection of dried fruits, nuts, and seeds.
 

... about Gluten-free Safety

How do you ensure that my cereal is truly gluten-free?
Your safety is our top priority. That’s why Custom Choice Cereal takes various precautions to ensure that each cereal that you create is truly gluten-free. We
  • source only naturally gluten-free ingredients
  • test each incoming ingredient for potential cross-contamination with EZ Gluten®, the leading gluten detecting test that is sensitive to within 10 parts per million (ppm). (For your information: the FDA proposes a threshold of 20 ppm for the definition of the term “gluten-free”
  • maintain a dedicated gluten-free mixing facility)
  • use only gluten-free cleaning supplies
Do any of your ingredients contain gluten?
No. All our ingredients are naturally gluten-free. In order to ensure that no cross-contamination has occurred we test each ingredient with EZ Gluten® when they enter our facility. EZ Gluten® is the leading gluten detecting test and sensitive to within 10 parts per million (ppm).
Is your mixing facility gluten-free?
Yes. For your safety, Custom Choice Cereal maintains a dedicated gluten-free facility where absolutely no outside food is allowed. Our facility is also closed to the general public to eliminate the risk of introduction of gluten. We also use only gluten-free cleaning supplies.
Do you provide information on living gluten-free or celiac disease?
Absolutely. We feel that it is part of our job to provide you with information on living gluten-free and the latest news on celiac disease. Custom Choice Cereal has a page with essential information on celiac disease, and we frequently post updates on our blog.
 

... about Ordering & Shipping

How many ingredients can I add to my cereal creation?
You can add up to 11 additional ingredients to your base mix. Since each mix weighs 12 ounces total (i.e. we take out 1 ounce of base mix for each ounce of ingredient that you add), 11 additions would leave you with only 1 ounce of your base mix. This pretty much makes it a gluten-free trail mix and is a great idea!
How many ingredients do you recommend in a tasty gluten-free cereal mix?
The whole beauty of the concept is that this is totally up to you. Our experience shows that 3-5 ingredient additions are the most common number of additions.
Can I add the same ingredient more than once?
Yes you can!
Can I name my gluten-free cereal creation?
You absolutely can and we even encourage you to do so. The name that you give your personal gluten-free cereal mix is printed prominently on the front of the bag.
What is a mix ID? Where can I find the mix ID for my gluten-free cereal?
Each gluten-free cereal is unique, and we assign it a unique mix ID for easy identification. You find this mix ID on the backside of your mix next to the nutrition facts.
How can I re-order a mix I created and that I really liked?
You will find a large box to re-order a mix on our homepage. All you have to do is type in the mix ID that you find on the backside of your mix next to the nutrition facts, and the mix is automatically added to your cart.
Can I send a gluten-free cereal to a friend?
You sure can, simply enter the shipping address of your friend during checkout.
Do you offer Gift Certificates?
Of course! Create a Gift Certificate now! It is the perfect gluten-free gift for any occasion. You don't have to worry about which ingredients to include in the mix, and our Gift Certificates can be used partially and never expire!
How much does the shipping of my cereal cost?
Custom Choice Cereal charges a flat rate of $4.80 to ship the first gluten-free cereal mix within the US. Each additional bag of cereal that you add to your order will increase your shipping costs by only $1.00 and therefore lowers your shipping cost on a per-bag-basis.
Do you ship to Canada?
We love our neighbors to the North but can currently ship our cereal only to addresses in the US. Please bear with us, we are working on a solution for you! 
I live in the Triangle. Can I save shipping cost and pick up my cereal at your facility?
Yes! Simply choose “Pickup from Facility” as your shipping method during the checkout process. Please don't forget to add a comment if you would like us to bring your cereal to the Hillsborough Farmers Market on Saturdays. We also welcome you to pick up your cereal between 1:00pm – 4:30pm at our mixing facility in Durham, North Carolina. Our address is 3209 Guess Road, Suite 202, Durham, NC 27705

Who are the people behind the scene?
Custom Choice Cereal was developed by a group of students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is currently run mainly by Hajo. Find out more about the people behind the scene by reading our story.
