Pecans

Pecans

Thomas Jefferson was (also) ahead of his time when it comes to pecans. He imported pecan trees from Louisiana to the yards surrounding his house at Monticello even though commercial growing of pecans in the United States did not begin until the 1880s.

Pecans are a cholesterol-free, sodium-free food and a good source of dietary fiber. Scientific evidence suggests but does not prove that eating 1.5 ounces per day of most nuts such as Pecans as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease.
